If you are part of a syndication tribe or if you are just trying to post a link on other blogs in order to help get your own site ranked higher in the search engines, you need to make sure the sites you post on are “Do Follow” sites.

If you are not familiar with “DoFollow” and “NoFollow”, I’ll explain them briefly here. In order to get your website ranked in a search engine, the search engine sends out a spider to crawl your site. When your site is crawled, the spider will crawl all of the links you have posted on your site and use that data to help determine your search engine ranking. The websites for all the links that you have posted on your site also have part of their search engine ranking determined by the fact that their link is on your website.

Some sites, and this includes most blogs, are automatically set up to be “NoFollow”. What this means is that there is code on the website that tells the spiders NOT to crawl the links that are posted there. This means that anyone that posts links on that site will not receive any search engine ranking status from having their link on your site.

So, it is very important that you post your links on sites that are “DoFollow” sites, since the “NoFollow” sites won’t do you a whole lot of good as far as search engine ranking goes. Actually there really isn’t a “DoFollow” set of code for a website. A site is “DoFollow” if it does NOT have the “NoFollow” code on it.

If a website is “NoFollow” – it will have the following code on it:

r e l=”nofollow”

You can look at the source code for a page and do a search for this phrase to determine if it is a “nofollow” site. You can also do a search on any search engine for “Do Follow Blogs” to see a list of blogs that are relevant to your niche.

Most blogs are set up to be “NoFollow” as the default setting. If you are using a WordPress blog – there are plugins available that can remove this code from your blog. One good one is Dofollow . If you are part of a tribe that is doing blog syndication, make sure all of your tribe members have their blogs set to “DoFollow” in order to maximize content exposure for all your members.
